About Me

Hello! Welcome to my blog, I am Caitlin.

It's kind of like I'm inviting you into my kitchen. Except I won't show you all my failures :)

If you were actually in my kitchen, you'd see all of those. I will likely share some of them with you, but you should know...there's a lot more where they came from!

I love to bake and cook. I love to be challenged in my cooking, and I try to be creative about what I eat. I get tired of things pretty quickly, so it helps to be constantly coming up with new and exciting things!

Another thing that's important to me is health. I think that nutrition is important to keep in mind. I also think it's a good challenge. I believe that it takes a lot of skill to create something that tastes good and is healthy. In some ways, I think the best cooks and bakers are the ones who can balance good flavor and nutrition. However, I don't always cook healthfully. I try to, but sometimes it's just best to take a break and just remember not to "pig out"! So I'm ok with unhealthful foods...occasionally...in moderation.

That being said, for the most part, I have no hard-and-fast health rules. Thankfully I have no allergies/intolerances. I also am not a vegan, vegetarian, etc. If you have a special diet, I assume you know general substitutions to make in recipes in order for you to enjoy them yourself. If not, please comment and I'll give you my best guess about substitutions from my experiences. I often happen to make dishes which are special-diet friendly, and will try to label them as such in those cases!

Something else I should share is that my enjoyment of food and cooking can easily turn into something ugly and unhealthy. I've had my moments when I've struggled with gluttony, and cannot get my focus off food.

I want to enjoy food in a way that doesn't make it my life. Life is more than food (Luke 12:23). We all know that on some level, but sometimes we really don't act like it.

One of the ways I want this blog to be different is that I don't want anyone to be tempted to "lust" after food in any way. I take the term food porn very seriously. I don't want any of that here. However, I do want to have decent photos of the food I create (especially since it can be hard to picture sometimes) because I want you to understand what it should end up like. And let's be honest, my directions and descriptions don't always do things justice.

So that being said, let me know if at any point you feel that the photos I have included are a little too much. I don't want anyone gawking longingly at photos on this blog. Food is for eating, and for enjoying, but it's not something we should covet or lust after.

I hope that my posts are enjoyable and that they encourage creativity in your cooking. Please feel free to comment on what you've tried, would like to try, or with any questions or advice!

Thank you for "visiting my kitchen"!
